I would like to thank Mak & Pindy for opening the Bikram yoga studio in Delta!! I have been practicing yoga for several years and it has been a life changing experiencing for me. I decided to do yoga after a recommendation from my husband’s friend because I was suffering from a lot of physical and emotion pain. I had several headaches, IBS, TMJ Disorder, several depression, panic attacks and anxiety disorder. I have seen a lot of medical doctors, such as neurologist, psychiatrist, cranial adjustment therapist, chiropractor, acupuncturist and message therapist and I was not getting the relief I was looking for and was tired of taking all sort of different medication and going to doctors and emergency visits
My headaches, TM Disorder and anxiety disorder have decreased by 80 -90 % however I am still working on the mental and spiritual benefits. Hot yoga has increased my lung capacity, cardio, strength, flexibility and improved my posture.
Mak runs his studio with a lot of discipline, you are not allowed to leave the hot room for 90 mins unless it is an emergency and we have designated water breaks. We are spoiled by choices and don’t like to be told what to do however yoga is the ancient Indian science of self-discipline. The Sanskrit word yoga means union, and yoga practice is a path of self-exploration that unites the mind, body, and spirit, enabling you to discover your best self.
I thank Mak & Pindy for the dedication at this studio for fine tuning me on my path to healing.
Namaste!!

I cannot begin to tell you how passionately I feel about the benefits of Bikram Yoga. I started practicing Bikram Yoga a few years ago. At first, I was not consistent with my practice. I took part in and even completed a few 30 day challenges, as well as some drop in classes. I think back, and realize that during these phases where I would attend yoga classes, my quality of life was improved. However, I didn't realize at the time that it was the yoga that was benefiting me so greatly.
Recently, I have returned to the hot room. And I must say, it is the best decision I have made for myself, and I know now that I want and need this to be a part of my life forever. Bikram Yoga gives me a sense of peace, self-contentment and balance in my life that I have never been able to achieve before. It has helped me to be a significantly more positive, happier, kinder, and grateful person.
Also, just a while ago I was diagnosed with something called erythema nodosum, a type of skin inflammation that results in painful lesions mainly on my legs. They caused unbelievable non-stop joint pain and irritating throbbing sensations. Since returning to yoga, I have been able to stop taking medication for the most part; I cannot believe how much the yoga has helped me, it is a miracle! I try to prioritize yoga in my daily life now, and it is truly worth it.
BYD (Bikram Yoga Delta) is my safe place. I go there to challenge myself, to work on myself, to share my energy with others, and to regain energy I use throughout my daily routine. The teachers there are amazing; Mak and Diane have really been great mentors to me especially. They are honest and they want you to be honest to yourselves, because you really can achieve anything you want to. Mind over matter!
I've really started to believe that the way you handle yourself in the hot room is the way you handle your life. As the teachers always say, would you rather suffer 90 minutes or 90 years?
I would recommend this studio to anyone and everyone, if you're looking for a happier and healthier lifestyle, don't wait another day… push yourself and go to class now!!!

BIKRAM YOGA is the best medicine in the whole world for physical and psychological pain. I have been practicing this amazing form of yoga since 2009 and I THANK GOD EACH DAY THAT I AM SO LUCKY that there is a Bikram Yoga Studio close to my house that I can even walk to. It has healed me inside and out and helped me change my lifestyle. I do not to know where to start as I have so much to say. I was having problems with my psychological health as well as my physical health. I would experience panic attacks, anxiety problems and claustrophobia. I also had tendinitis and I had been diagnosed with fibro adenoma which worried me, my physical and psychological health was deteriorating. I started taking Bikram yoga classes 5 years back. In the beginning it was very hard and it felt like I was torturing myself being in that hot room. I couldn't stand the heat; I was not flexible which would make the postures for me feel even more difficult. But from the first day in class I knew I was in the right place. It took me almost 2 years to get used to the heat and to do all postures and it took me a very, very long time to enjoy the yoga. Since then I enjoy every class I do and THE FEELING AFTER CLASS IS SIMPLY AMAZING. I am a stronger, happier, healthier, and a more optimistic woman than ever could have imagined to be. I am healthier in my 40's than I was in my 20's. My anxiety is gone and one of my most recent and greatest achievements was sitting in the world's highest gondola located in Whistler which took me from one peak to another. Before yoga with my anxiety and phobias I was not able to enjoy my life to the fullest. I *knock on wood* have not been sick in three years. I go to India once every year and I go there without taking any vaccines or prevention medicines and I am able to enjoy my trip there without worrying about getting sick. I have convinced my friends and family to go and cure themselves from various illnesses and issues in their lives. Being a believer in karma, I believe that I must have done something good in my past which led me to this place. Bikram Yoga and Bikram Yoga Delta really has turned my life around for the better.
One quote which sticks to me and reminds me everyday what I have overcome,
"Yoga has a sly, clever way of short circuiting the mental patterns that cause anxiety."- Baxter Bal

I am a new comer to Bikram Yoga. My husband bought us a one year pass in October 2013. I was apprehensive about starting for many reasons. I had done some yoga on and off since I was a teenager, but never Hatha yoga. My first class was awful. I was sure I was going to die. The room was hot, the postures were relentless and impossible, and the teacher never stopped talking. I left the room and sat just outside the door and cried. Thanks to Jordyn for sitting with me and making me drink cold water. I confess the only reason I went back was because we had already purchased the passes. I am forever grateful that we did pay and that I went back for another try. The next few classes were a lot better, I knew what to expect, drank lots of water prior to class and made sure I did not eat for a couple hours prior to class.
I am 53 years old and have been diabetic since I was 30. Three months after starting Bikram Yoga, my blood sugars began to normalize for the first time in years, with no change in medication or diet. We have been going now for 9 months and I must confess that I feel better than I have ever felt. I have not lost a lot of weight, but I have lost two sizes. I am grateful that there is a studio so close to us. It is airy, clean, organized and the people are wonderful. Thank you Mak!

Bikram Hot Yoga at Mak and Pindy's Delta studio has been life-changing for me!
During the first postures in my first class a year and a half ago, I felt like I'd come home to myself. I immediately bought a year's pass.
We all know that regular exercise (which I've always struggled with) makes us feel better, but Bikram Yoga is special. It's TRANSFORMATIVE! It's cleansing - physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. It's a moving meditation, a 90 minute opportunity to be in my body, in the moment, here and now.
I've never worked so hard, felt so good, or loved and hated something so much at the same time, as I have during these classes. I fell in love with it the first time I was reminded not just to "lock my knees!" but to do it "with my happy smiling face". I feel such gratitude when I'm reminded to "look in the mirror and love what I see". I'm learning to breathe deeply, focus, commit to the moment, observe and accept the process, and believe that I can do it even when my mind would have me believe otherwise.
I love the discipline at the Delta studio. I've heard that other studios aren't as strict - I love the Bikram standard heat and humidity, the carpet, the closed doors, the 'stay in the room' expectation, the no speaking during and after class rule. I love the inspirational, tough, humorous, strict dialogue of the teachers - their belief in us, their passion to share their energy with us and push us to be our best, and their reminders to breathe fully, stay present, to be still, challenge ourselves and then fully rest.
Mak is a wonderful, genuine, tough and funny teacher. He's so interested in helping each individual student reach a personal best that we often end up waiting for him and holding the postures way longer! His classes are tough and yet we find ourselves smiling in the midst of our suffering and we leave feeling better and stronger than ever.
Mak is passionate about Bikram and about giving others a place to discover themselves and achieve their greatest health and happiness. He and Pindy make the Delta studio feel like a home away from home. With Pindy's kind leadership, the desk staff, Megan, Stehanie and Jordyn, are always friendly, welcoming and supportive. They keep the studio thoroughly clean, comfortable and well organized.
Dianne is an incredible teacher. She's strong and tough, and at the same time compassionate and loving. She leads us through the postures with precision, wisdom and humor, and reminds us to love ourselves and each other. Although she doesn't let us accept our own excuses, she also knows when we're giving our all that day. Dianne makes us feel special and empowered - I always appreciate the thoughtful individual attention she gives in and out of the room.
Anh teaches with a gentle strength. She is an inspiration to those of us healing from an injury, and she passionately shares her energy with us as we reach for greater strength and flexibility in our postures. She's funny and light, but no-nonsense about the yoga. She's passionate about helping her students heal and grow.
Ivan is a wonderful teacher. His calm voice guides us through the postures with strength and conviction, never intruding on our time alone with ourselves, but always reminding us of the intention of each posture. His serenity is contagious and during his class I feel calm, focused and present.
I haven't been to one of Jessica's classes yet, but I'm confident they'll be great too. Mak only hires the best!
I'm so grateful for Bikram Yoga and for everyone at the Delta studio. I didn't hesitate to buy a second year's pass, and although I still struggle sometimes with practicing as regularly as I could, I am constantly struck by how this yoga has helped to change my outlook on life and on myself. At almost 50, I'm more open, positive and happy than ever, and more confident about my physical strength and health. I recommend Delta Bikram’s Studio to everyone that I know, meet and that is reading this now!

I’ve been a sports guy all my life. I played basketball ever since I was 12, I boxed for 7 years, and I run for a passion 10k’s almost every day. However, nothing compares to Bikram's Hot Yoga. It has changed my life.
I first came into Bikram Yoga Delta to ask what Bikram Yoga was all about for my girl friend. She had heard good things about it and was interested in starting it up. I talked with Mak for awhile and what he explained and was saying sounded too good to be true. Almost like a sales pitch. But, I kept an open mind and I had nothing to lose, so we signed up for classes.
Although it hasn't been that long since I have been doing Bikram yoga, I feel it has affected me in ways that nothing else has or can. I feel more attached with my body, mind, and soul.
I sleep better!! Which in itself is amazing because I have had years of trouble with my sleep and sleeping patterns.
I am currently attending university, and I was writing a final exam last week when something so amazing happened. Thanks to yoga, for the first time ever, I was able to photographically remember my notes and what I had studied. How great is it for that to happen under pressure in a final exam? Wow!!
Also recently, I got injured in my class when I felt a deep sprain in my knee. I believe I might have pushed myself too hard to do a posture. As a precaution, I went to my doctor for a diagnosis. He advised me to quit yoga. I replied with "close your clinic down and I will quit yoga!" He looked at me rather puzzled. I told him there is no way in hell I will stop Bikram Yoga. Funny thing is, Mak predicted that is what he would say.
It turned out that the next day my knee was fine, 100%. What if I listened to my Dr’s bad advice as so many people do? I would be missing out on this amazing gift.
Yoga has become my life, I want to thank Mak. He is an especially great guy. He guided me towards discovering the power of mind over the body. Thanks Mak.
My advice to others is......Keep at it everyone and don’t give up. Suffer for 90 minutes and you will live the rest of your LONG lives in harmony!!!
Always remember, Health is Wealth!!!

Obese, depressed and borderline alcoholic, that was me 2 years ago. Then a diagnosis of severe thyroid disease helped get me on the right medication to start the process of getting healthy. Slowly, a tiny bit of metabolism returned and with that, a slight weight loss. Fall 2009 I added an hour’s power walk to my day but didn’t feel connected to myself or body. It wasn’t until the last week of January 2010 that I ‘found’ Bikram Yoga. My friend and I attended a class at Bikram Yoga Delta. She hated it and has never returned. I struggled through it but something deep down inside of me clicked. I attended two more classes that week, then purchased a year’s pass knowing that I needed to make a commitment to myself, and that was definitely committing!
While I’ve only been practicing for 8 months (was away for March) my journey so far, to me, has been profound. Bikram yoga has changed my body. I am no longer obese, and I have a normal BMI. Bikram yoga has changed my mental health; I am no longer depressed, and in fact have a better outlook on life than ever before. I used to use alcohol daily to cope, but Bikram Yoga has taught me coping skills. Doing yoga has detoxified my body, so that my body no longer craves something that is not good for it. But what truly has helped me the most has been the staff at BYD. I smile often in Savasana because I’m overwhelmed at how fortunate I am to be there… having this amazing studio so close and being instructed by very caring teachers. Although the dialogue and postures are the same every class, it’s the personal touches from each teacher that I appreciate. One teacher tells us never say I can’t instead say not yet. I have applied that small but mighty saying to my life, it’s forgiving but inspiring all at the same time. Another teacher shares with us that we are learning to be comfortable in an uncomfortable situation, no more excuses for avoiding things in life!!!! Bikram yoga has taught me to include myself in the circle of people who come first in my life. I hear a lot of people say that they don’t have time to go to Bikram yoga. I am a professional accountant, mother of 3 kids between the ages of 5 and 21, and have a pilot husband who is away more than half the month, etc. But I prioritize yoga because I am better at all those ‘jobs’ when I have practiced my yoga. Bikram yoga gives me energy to be all the things I need to be to the people in my life.
I have experienced personal growth being instructed by the teachers to push past my own perceived mental boundaries. As one teacher says what the mind can perceive the body can achieve, such a powerful concept. I used to be hard on myself when I didn’t have a good class but as one teacher said ‘the worst class is the class you didn’t go to!'
Having the opportunity to try many other studios while travelling, I can honestly say that nothing compares to BYD. The whole studio is a community of caring, extraordinary people and I feel blessed to be able to practice there and have felt welcome since that first day back in January when I walked through the doors and they changed my life!
You guys are the best, thanks so much for everything!

As a newcomer in my first class, I did not know what to expect. I knew it was a hot room that you do yoga moves in, but I had no idea how hot or how hard the first class was going to be. The first class was a difficult class and even the next week was challenging, but I would never discourage anyone from attending this great mind, balance, strength and flexibility class.
"So good for your body yoga" as the teacher would say after each class. I can’t express enough how Bikram Yoga has changed my thinking and my behaviour. I am much calmer, and my attitude toward life in general is so different. I was one of those individual that went to the gym and played all types of sports to stay in shape. But never had I ever felt as great after working out as I do after each bikram yoga class. The feeling of being relaxed, calm, energized and most importantly, feeling so good toward life. I have been attending since December of 2011 and as of January, I have been attending regularly, 4 – 5 times a week and never less than 3 days. From the years of playing all kinds of sports, you come to have numerous amounts of aches and pains. Shoulders, legs, back, elbows and neck just to mention a few. But after being in class on a regular basis, I have found that not only did some of my aches go away, but I feel stronger and much happier with myself and others. "This is amazing yoga!” To anyone that has back, shoulder, or knee issues that bother them or even migraines, I suggest you need to attend this yoga. No agitation or excitement to any kind of disturbance. You feel so blissful after doing each posture and laying motionless on your back in savasana.
"SO GOOD FOR YOUR MIND, BODY AND OVERALL HEALTH"
I feel so grateful and thankful that I have been given this great opportunity thanks to all the wonderful teachers that put their time into teaching these extraordinary yoga classes. (special thanks to Diane)
I have been practicing Bikram Yoga for the past few years and it has benefited my life tremendously. Bikram Yoga is very challenging and at the same time very rewarding. Admittedly, Bikram Yoga is not easy in the beginning, but anything worthwhile having does take hard work to get.
Practicing yoga has benefited my life in so many ways. I have a much better quality of sleep and more energy during the day. Yoga improved my self confidence and body image. I am more flexible and have a better posture. My body is more toned and lengthened. Another huge benefit is that I have a more positive outlook on life and remain calmer in tense situations and decreased my anxiety and depression. With the help of Bikram Yoga I was able to quit smoking with very little or any cravings or withdrawal. To quit smoking alone is life changing, and practicing yoga on a regular basis has taken away all my cravings which itself is a miracle.
I have practiced at many different studios in the lower mainland and after moving to the area, I started practicing at the Bikram Yoga Delta studio six months ago. Without a doubt it has been my most favorite studio. The studio has a warm, inviting atmosphere. The yoga room is spacious and very clean. The carpets are thoroughly cleaned, and do not pose the danger as hard floors do. The change rooms are very big and clean as well. The staff is very friendly and all the teachers are amazing. The owner Mak cares deeply about his students, and pushes me in class because when I think I cannot go any further, he believes in me and knows I can do it. Bikram says "our number one problem is that we under estimate ourselves" and all the teachers at the Delta studio have helped me push myself past my comfort zone, and in turn I have gotten amazing results. I have learned in the Delta studio that if I can survive 90 minutes in the hot ‘torture chamber’, I can basically survive anything else life throws my way. There are many days that I feel down, doing a yoga class fixes everything. It really is a medicine. A natural medicine. People say that they cannot afford to attend yoga classes. For me, I work part time and live on my own. Money is tight. But after I pay my rent, I make sure there is money available to pay for yoga. I prioritize yoga. It is worth doing that and making sacrifices in other areas. Feeling good and being healthy is more important to me. I would really like to thank Mak and the rest of the staff at the Bikram Delta studio for believing in me when I didn't believe in myself and having such a positive impact on my life physically, emotionally, mentally and spirituality. I would highly recommend anyone and everyone to practice at the Bikram Yoga Delta studio. It is a huge part of my life and the rewards have been incredible.

In January, 2012 I started my Bikram Hot Yoga program with Mak at Bikram Yoga Delta.
I average 4 classes a week, and now 153 sessions later, I just visited my doctor for my Annual check up.
- Blood Pressure down to 110 over 80
- Lost 25 pounds
- Lost 3 inches off my waist
I am sleeping very well. I’ve eliminated so many toxins out of my system. The bad drivers on the road don’t bother me as much anymore. Not bad for someone who just turned 64 years old.
I can’t rave enough about Bikram Hot Yoga to my family & friends.
It’s not easy to stay in the room for 90 minutes but in the end, it is personally very rewarding.
I would recommend anyone, young and old, to start training at Bikram Yoga Delta.

At the age of 65, I started Bikram Yoga at the Delta Studio just four months ago. I had heard some things about the benefits of hot yoga, as well as some negative things. I honestly thought I might die from the heat. As well, I was concerned about the price as I work for minimum wage as a security guard. I came in to inquire more about the program offered. I spoke with Mak, the owner at the Delta School. I expressed my fears and concerns. Mak spoke with conviction that there was nothing to be afraid of, that I would not die. I argued that I wanted to leave the room if needed, and he said no, as it would be disruptive for the other students and to just stay in the room and that I would be ok. He advised me to not worry about the money, as it was an investment in myself. Nervously, I started attending classes the next morning. Yes, the first few classes were difficult. But the feeling after class was amazing. I kept attending almost daily and increased my energy level and I feel like a much younger man. I was on blood pressure medication with BP of 140/75, and now it is 120/60 and I have stopped taking my medication. My sugar is down from 7 to 4.9. My flexibility and posture is very much improved. I sleep so much better and even my memory is better. I think back now, and Mak was and still is right. The money paid to attend is a small amount for the benefits that I have received. Also, I have found all the instructors to be excellent. They give good direction and help me personally each class. I tell everyone I know to come attend Bikram yoga classes to improve their health and overall well being. I think if a 65 year old like me can push through each class, I would hope that this would inspire the old and young people to not be so so reluctant and to attend classes.

I am currently 61 years old and have been doing Bikram Yoga classes for over 5 years now. Before I started yoga, both my cholesterol’s were high. Now the Dr. says that they are normal and being controlled very well, and I didn’t even change my diet that much.
My job is very stressful and the yoga helps me not to feel so overwhelmed.
Overall, doing Bikram Yoga is very good providing so many medical and health benefits and definitely gives a better quality of life to me. I just feel so wonderful after finishing each class.
I like the Delta Bikram’s studio as the teachers are great, the change rooms are so nice and spacious and the studio is always kept very clean.

I had been very active since my university years, gymnastics, swimming, and tennis…until I had my son. I started taking courses in college while raising a young child. Both schoolwork and housework together were extremely demanding, which left little time for any kind of exercise. I worked like a spinning top until I was diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome and tennis elbow. I had to wear splints on both wrists while sleeping otherwise I would be woken up several times by the numbness of my arms in the middle of the night. When my family doctor and specialist in Burnaby Hospital indicated the possibility of needing surgery in the future, I decided to take the matter into my own hands. As a daughter of a general physician, I knew of the negative consequences of nerve surgery. I wanted to find a better way to heal myself so that I could be a healthy and able-bodied mother for my son as long as I needed to be.
On February 1, 2010, my son’s sixth birthday, I walked into Bikram Yoga Delta Studio, filled out the registration and waiver form, put down the blue mat and towel in the last row, and took my first Bikram yoga class. “… opening your chest like a flower petal blooming…” was the only thing that stuck in my head, and everything else was a blur. I hated the smell in the yoga room, and the soreness in every inch of my body...but loved the heat, the sweat, and the feeling of reincarnation afterwards, therefore I bought a 100-class package on the same day.
I started taking one class while still going swimming twice a week, but pretty soon I felt that 1500 meters of non-stop swimming wasn't as challenging as 90 minutes of Bikram Yoga. By the end of 2010, I found myself practicing yoga every second day, and I no longer needed to wear the splinter. My overall health has improved and I’m a happier, calmer, and more patient mother.
The therapeutic effects of Bikram yoga truly amazed me and continue to do so. The desire to improve my practice, to learn about yoga thoroughly, and to share its healing power with people eventually prompted me to take the nine-week intensive training in Los Angeles, and subsequently I became a Certified Bikram Yoga Teacher in the spring of 2011.
I still remember the nerve-wracking feeling when I stood on the podium teaching my first class on June 27, 2011. I recorded it, and still listen to it sometimes. I feel deeply grateful for the cues Mak gave me during the class, for the students that all stayed in the yoga room for the whole 97 minutes, and for the encouragement and positive feedback I received after the class.
My teaching style is strongly Dialogue-based, compassionate, positive, and encouraging. It doesn't matter what time it is, 6 o’clock in the morning or 8:15 pm in the evening. All students deserve to have a good workout. I try to learn students’ health conditions so I can give individual corrections accordingly.
I don't have preference for any postures as all 26 postures work in sequence to benefit every part of human body, inside out. After years of practice and teaching, I've realized that the postures I dread are the ones my body and/or mind crave the most, so I try my best to master them, and to love them. As Bikram always says, "we don't do yoga, we try yoga." Let's try yoga together on our journey to ultimate Self-realization.
Namaste!
